Schedule Changes, Discounts, and More from NJT this Labor Day Weekend

Separated into two parts, let’s look at all the discounts NJT has to offer this 2022 Labor Day weekend.

Discounts:

This weekend, kids ride free on NJ TRANSIT - Extended for Labor Day Weekend!

Save money with the Family SuperSaver Fare, which allows two children 11 and younger to travel free with each fare-paying adult

  • For the Labor Day holiday weekend, the program will be extended and in effect from 7 p.m. Friday, September 2 until 6 a.m. Tuesday, September 6.

And it’s not too late to save and enjoy NJ TRANSIT’s Summer Vibes offers!

Buy-one-get-one: Use the promo code “VIBESSEPT” in the NJ TRANSIT Mobile App to “Buy One, Get One Free” round-trip between any origin and destination. 

  • Only one code may be used per customer per month during the promotion and all tickets expire at the end of the promotion on September 5th.

316 Bus Excursion Fares: Save more than 25% to the shore from Philadelphia with excursion fares on the 316 express bus service between Philadelphia, Wildwood, and Cape May.

  • A round-trip ticket at the excursion fare is $30 between Philadelphia and Wildwood and $33 between Philadelphia and Cape May.
  • Round-trip excursion tickets must be purchased using the NJ TRANSIT Mobile App at Philadelphia 30th Street Station (TVMs) or, Wildwood Terminal and are good for up to 10 days from and including the date of sale.
  • Bus operators are not able to issue these round-trip excursion tickets on the bus.

Use the No. 308 express bus for travel to and from Six Flags Great Adventure or Hurricane Harbor. 

  • The No. 308 bus operates between the Port Authority Bus Terminal in New York and Six Flags, with an intermediate stop at Newark Penn Station. For details, visit njtransit.com/sixflags.

Take the North Jersey Coast Line trains to Monmouth Park Station when the track is open for live racing, through September 18th. 

  • NJ TRANSIT’s Monmouth Park Package includes round-trip transportation, general admission, and an official racing program, and costs only the price of the round-trip fare plus $3.50, a total savings of $6.50 off the face value if purchased separately.

And NJ TRANSIT will operate extra service this holiday weekend!


Schedule:

NJ Transit will add new “early getaway” service routes by rail and bus to their schedule on Friday, September 2 for riders looking to leave work early and get a jump-start on the Labor Day weekend.

  • Extra outbound trains will operate on the Morris & Essex (as well as the Northeastern Corridor, North Jersey Coast, Raritan Valley, and Main/Bergen County/Port Jervis) lines from approximately 1:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m.
  • Due to the suspected high ridership on these earlier rail service routes, normally scheduled rail routes made from approximately 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. may be adjusted or canceled. Keep an eye on NJT alerts here.
  • NJT will add additional bus routes out of the Port Authority Bus Terminal and make adjustments to more than two dozen bus routes and schedules starting around noon, Friday, September 2.
  • All light rail services will operate on regular weekday schedules.

Saturday, September 3 through Sunday, September 4:

Rail: All trains will operate on a regular weekend schedule.

Bus: Saturday and Sunday schedules will remain in effect with a few added buses

Light Rail: 

  • Hudson-Bergen Light Rail will operate on a weekend schedule. 
  • Newark Light Rail will operate on a Saturday and Sunday schedule respectively. 
  • River LINE will operate on a Saturday and Sunday schedule respectively.

Labor Day, Monday, September 5:

Rail: Trains will operate on a weekend/major holiday schedule on all lines.

  • An additional train will depart Port Jervis at 4:05 p.m. and will make all stops to Suffern, then will operate express to Secaucus and Hoboken.

Bus: Most bus services will operate on Saturday or Sunday schedules, with Route No. 139 (PABT to Lakewood) operating on a special timetable available at njtransit.com.
