Repairs on I-80 Eastbound Prompt Nighttime Detours; Part of a $22.6 Million Statewide Maintenance Project
The New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) has alerted motorists in Morris County to brace for detours as major closures on I-80 ramps are set to be enforced overnight in Roxbury.
In an announcement earlier today, NJDOT officials said that the I-80 eastbound ramp from Landing Road and the I-80 eastbound ramp from Route 46 westbound/Ledgewood Road will be closed and detoured tonight. Alongside these ramp closures, the right and center lanes on I-80 eastbound will also be closed, causing potential delays for late-night and early-morning commuters.
The closures will commence at 10 p.m. tonight, Wednesday, May 24, and will remain in place until 5 a.m., Thursday, May 25. During this period, IEW Construction Group Inc., the contractor assigned by NJDOT, is scheduled to conduct concrete deck repairs on I-80 eastbound from milepost 28.8 to milepost 29.2. Despite the lane closures, at least one lane of traffic will be maintained on I-80 eastbound throughout the construction.
These overnight closures are part of a larger state-funded maintenance project costing $22.6 million. The project aims to repair concrete structures at various locations across eight counties in North Jersey.
While the scheduled repair work is due to start tonight, NJDOT has cautioned that the exact timing is subject to change due to weather or other unpredictable factors. Motorists are advised to check NJDOT's traffic information website, www.511nj.org, for construction updates and real-time travel information.
In anticipation of potential delays, commuters are encouraged to plan their journeys accordingly, considering alternative routes and allowing extra travel time where necessary. These measures underline the state's commitment to ensuring the longevity and safety of its roadways.
