In an unprecedented move, Governor Phil Murphy of New Jersey has launched an engagement initiative through the Community™ platform, allowing residents to directly text him at (732) 605-5455. This marks the first time a U.S. Governor has engaged with constituents in this manner, offering first-hand updates on vital state matters.
TRENTON – Embracing modern technology to reach the people of New Jersey, Governor Phil Murphy today unveiled a unique engagement platform, Community™, that connects residents directly to the Governor via text messaging. The new initiative will enable citizens to receive updates, ask questions, and share concerns directly with the Governor, bypassing traditional social media channels.

What? Launched Community™, an SMS marketing platform that connects public figures with audiences through a unique 10-digit phone number, enabling a direct line of communication.
When? The announcement was made yesterday, August 24, 2023.
Where? The initiative was unveiled on social media and will connect New Jersey residents through the platform.
Why? Murphy's team chose Community™ to enhance their engagement with residents, providing firsthand updates and a more personal connection without the influence of algorithms.
How? Residents can text their comments or questions to (732) 605-5455 and will receive updates directly from the Governor.
Governor Murphy expressed his enthusiasm for the platform, stating, “Virtually every consumer uses text messaging. Why not use it to speak directly to residents, keep them updated on some of the great work we're doing, and at the same time provide them with another opportunity to tell us what’s on their minds?”
Unlike conventional social media channels, Community™ does not filter content through algorithms or share advertising. It offers an authentic, unfiltered communication channel, delivering text messages directly to subscribers.
The Governor's decision to adopt Community™ follows President Biden's debut of the platform, resonating with the organization's vision to promote personal engagement rooted in authenticity, belonging, and trust. Importantly, the platform does not sell user data and prohibits discrimination against individuals, groups, or communities, aligning with principles that enhance personal connection and safeguard user privacy.
