Morristown and Surrounding Areas Brace for Traffic Delays Amidst Widespread Construction Projects

Multiple Roadworks on Key Routes Today: Expect Lane Closures and Shifts

As residents set out for their daily commutes this morning, they're met with a significant number of construction projects affecting several major roadways in and around Morristown, impacting traffic flow and potentially causing delays.

The New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) has announced ongoing construction activities on key routes including NJ 23, NJ 15, I-80, US 46, and NJ 53, scheduled for completion by late afternoon today.

Starting from 9:00 AM, drivers traversing NJ 23 will encounter right shoulder closures stretching from North of Alexander Avenue in Pequannock Township to North of Maple Lake Road in Kinnelon, with work expected to continue until 3:00 PM.

Similarly, NJ 15 sees one right lane closure in both directions near CR 699/Berkshire Valley Road in Rockaway Township, also concluding at 3:00 PM.

I-80 is under the spotlight with two separate construction sites; one eastbound near Exit 26 - US 46 in Mount Olive Township with a right shoulder closure until 2:30 PM, and another westbound section from West of Exit 34 - NJ 15 to East of Exit 30 - Howard Boulevard in Roxbury Township, closing the left lane until 1:00 PM.

US 46 witnesses multiple closures: in Mine Hill Township, both directions west of CR 669/Canfield Avenue have one right lane and shoulder closed until 3:00 PM; eastbound lanes near CR 659/Blackwell Street in Dover, and west of I-80 in Mount Olive Township, both endure one right lane closure until 3:00 PM and 2:30 PM respectively.

Additionally, construction work in both directions near CR 644/Main Street in Rockaway Township began an hour earlier at 8:00 AM, with similar restrictions in place until 3:00 PM.

Lastly, NJ 53 is experiencing a lane shift in both directions south of NJ 10 in Morris Plains, impacting all lanes until 3:00 PM.

These extensive construction efforts, part of NJDOT's ongoing maintenance and infrastructure improvement program, are crucial for the safety and efficiency of New Jersey's roadways.

Motorists are advised to plan their routes accordingly, allowing extra travel time and considering alternative routes where possible. Stay informed on traffic updates and adjust your travel plans to navigate the construction with minimal disruption.
