Reminder: Upcoming Lane Closures on I-80 Eastbound in Warren County for Retaining Wall Repairs

Motorists Advised to Plan for Delays Starting April 1 Due to Construction Work

Beginning Monday, April 1, drivers traversing I-80 eastbound in Hardwick and Knowlton, Warren County, will need to account for daily right lane closures, the New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) has announced.

This necessary adjustment is part of a project to repair a retaining wall along this critical stretch of interstate.

The lane closure, set to be enforced from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday, is expected to last until summer 2024, affecting traffic flow from milepost 0.5 after the River Road exit in Hardwick to milepost 1.5 before the Weigh Station/U-turn in Knowlton.

At least one lane will remain open during the construction period to mitigate disruptions.

NJDOT urges motorists to exercise caution and patience when driving through the work zone, noting that the exact timing of the repairs may shift based on weather conditions or other unforeseen factors.

Should the work conclude ahead of schedule, the closed lane will be reopened earlier than anticipated.

NJDOT Pothole Repair Initiative Underway

In related news, the NJDOT has kicked off its 2024 Pothole Campaign as of March 4, highlighting efforts to maintain road safety and integrity. Acting Commissioner Fran O’Connor has released a safety message underscoring the importance of these repairs.

During this campaign, lane closures may occur statewide to facilitate quick and effective pothole repairs. While efforts will be made to limit work to off-peak hours between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m., drivers should remain alert to changing traffic patterns and potential slowdowns.

Importance of Heeding Work Zone Safety Laws

NJDOT reminds drivers of New Jersey’s Move Over law, which mandates that motorists shift lanes away from stopped emergency or service vehicles when it is safe to do so or slow down as a precaution. This law is crucial for the safety of road workers and emergency responders operating along highways.

Motorists encountering potholes on state highways are encouraged to report them to NJDOT by calling 1-800-POTHOLE or using an online mapping tool designed to pinpoint the exact pothole location. For potholes on county roads, reports should be directed to the respective county offices. NJDOT aims to address potholes swiftly, prioritizing those posing significant safety risks.
