Mendham Twp: Notice from Hunterdon Area Energy Cooperative Concerning Your Electric Supply
From Sarah Neibart, Mendham Twp Mayor -
"Last week you should have received a letter from the Hunterdon Area Energy Cooperative (HAEC) about the new contract with IDT Energy, Inc., which begins in September. That letter was an informational notice, and you do not need to take any action.
"Beginning in 2020, Mendham Township took advantage of a state law that allows us to establish a Community Energy Aggregation (CEA) Program. This program permits the aggregation of all residential customers within participating municipalities for the purpose of competitively purchasing electricity at rates lower than are currently available from our electric utility, JCP&L. Mendham Township combined the electricity consumption of all residential customers in conjunction with six other towns and received competitive bids from the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities licensed suppliers to provide this electricity supply service and secure better rates for our residents. The supplier that won the bid for the HAEC, which Mendham Township is a part of, was IDT Energy.
"The new CEA program rate will be $0.1119/kWh (referred to as the “Standard Option”). The CEA program also offers residents the option to select 100% Renewable Energy (referred to as the “Green Option”) for $0.1176/kWh. The program rate is the same from month to month and you have the ability to leave the program at any time.
"There is nothing you need to do to obtain the Standard Option rate and your electric service will continue without interruption. Eligible residents will be automatically enrolled in the program at the Standard Option Rate unless they choose to opt into the Green Option or opt out of the program altogether.
"If you have questions about this information, please call the program’s customer care team at 1-866-688-5197. Updated program information is provided on the HAEC’s web page at: www.njaggregation.us/HAEC."
