Morris Plains Community Band to hold Free Concerts
The Morris Plains Community Band will be presenting concerts in Roberts Garden Park (at the corner of Glenbrook Road and Mountain Way in Morris Plains) every Wednesday evening in August. The concerts are free of charge and will begin at 6:30pm each week. Attendees should bring blankets or lawn chairs to sit on. Roberts Garden is a very shady public park, with an arboretum-like environment.
Each weekly concert will present an entirely different program as follows:
August 14th – “Swing Tones”, our 1930’s – 1940’s era 20-piece swing jazz band, will present a concert of Count Basie and Duke Ellington hits, featuring the vocal stylings of Mark Gold, who will be performing several songs that were recorded by Frank Sinatra with the Count Basie Orchestra.
August 21st – “Music from Around the World” will present eighteen songs from different countries of the world, and will feature music from England, France, Norway, Russia, Spain, Germany, Austria, Czechoslovakia, Italy, Canada, Ireland and the United States.
August 28th – “Pop Hits Through the Years” will feature top song hits from the late 1930’s to the present day, and will include songs by Glenn Miller, Frank Sinatra, Henry Mancini, The Four Seasons, Sam & Dave, Wilson Pickett, Otis Redding, Blood Sweat & Tears, Chicago, Barry Manilow, Neil Diamond, Queen, Cold Play, Lady Gaga and Bruno Mars.
Our August concert series is sponsored by the Borough of Morris Plains, First Indemnity of America Insurance Co. and First Managed Care Options, Inc. We are very grateful for their support.
Our mission: To provide an opportunity for people to enjoy playing music, and to perform our music for those who would enjoy it.
