Morristown’s First Public Mural in Collaboration With End of Elm & Smith Design
Adding a splash of color and optimism to its streets, Morristown, New Jersey, yesterday unveiled its first public mural, an initiative driven by the combined efforts of Smith Design and End of Elm, in partnership with Morristown Partnership and Levitate Creative Services.
This landmark project reflects the creative prowess of Smith Design, a full-service strategic brand design agency that boasts over 40 years of experience delivering striking visual and verbal solutions.
This ranges from brand strategy and identity work to complete omnichannel activations. Smith Design's core belief is that design serves as a force for good, striving to positively impact their staff, clients, and the broader community.
The mural, taking pride of place at 140-150 Morris Street on Olyphant Place, was born out of Smith Design's aspiration to undertake a large-scale philanthropic project following its 40th-anniversary celebration.
The initiative aimed to inspire the wider community by exhibiting the talents of its creative team. Though initial plans were delayed by the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, the concept was finally realized on the exterior of End of Elm’s building, a local gastronomic hub with a fervor for artistic expression.
End of Elm, renowned for its diverse culinary creations and rotating international art exhibit, served as the perfect canvas for this endeavor.
Owner Paul Haley shared, "End of Elm believes in supporting the arts and bringing the voices and visions of artists into public spaces."
Jennifer Wehring of Morristown Partnership expressed satisfaction in uniting End of Elm, Smith Design, and Motown Props to create this public mural. In line with the mission of Morristown Partnership, the mural aims to uplift the community for all those who reside, work, and visit Morristown.
Under the creative leadership of Smith Design’s President & CEO Jenna Smith, and Designer Jessica Murray, the mural embodies the theme of 'celebration', brought to life with interactive shapes and vivid colors.
Jessica Murray reflected, "Our overall inspiration for the mural was fueled by everyday things and a playful blend of imagination. It is incredibly rewarding to contribute to Morristown’s landscape, fostering an engaging and positive environment!"
The mural was unveiled on Wednesday, May 31st, inviting the public to meet the talented team behind its creation. This milestone project aspires to infuse color, joy, creativity, and inspiration into Morristown's streets, highlighting the profound impact of art and collaboration in enhancing community life.
