Morris County Prosecutor's Office Joins Statewide 'Flame of Hope' Torch Run for Special Olympics
(Headquarters Plaza, Morristown) - On June 9, 2023, Morris County Prosecutor's Office stood united with fellow law enforcement agencies across New Jersey as they ran shoulder to shoulder in the annual Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics New Jersey, amplifying the spirit of the sporting event and its athletes.
The Torch Run, a statewide initiative dating back to 1981, has grown to become the largest public awareness vehicle and grassroots fundraiser for Special Olympics.
The tradition has law enforcement members, dubbed the "Guardians of the Flame," carry the "Flame of Hope" across the state, culminating in the opening ceremony of New Jersey's Special Olympics Summer Games.
This year's games were hosted by the College of New Jersey in Ewing Township from June 9 through June 11.
Members from the Morris County Prosecutor's Office commenced their portion of the run from Headquarters Plaza in Morristown, passing the torch at Morris Township on Mt. Kemble Avenue and Harter Road. The flame then continued its journey southward, carried by other eager participants.
Reflecting on the event, Morris County Prosecutor Robert Carroll praised the collaborative spirit fostered by the Torch Run. "The Torch Run is a terrific event that brings together law enforcement and our communities for an admirable cause," Carroll stated. "All participants, from event organizers to the runners and supporters, continue to demonstrate their commitment to this long-standing annual tradition that benefits the Special Olympics."
The Torch Run, embodying unity and support for the cause of the Special Olympics, continues to blaze a trail of inclusivity and perseverance.
For the members of the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office, it was another proud day of service - this time, running the extra mile for a cause that enriches the lives of Special Olympics athletes.
