New Laws in New Jersey, June Update

All the bills passed into law in New Jersey since our last legislative update on May 8th, 2023.

New Jersey has been buzzing with legislative activity, with a slew of new bills recently passed into law. 

In the time since our last update on May 8, 2023, the Garden State's legislators have passed several bills on issues ranging from health and education to the economy and social justice. 

Here's what you need to know:

  1. SJR22 - The second week of June each year is now designated as "Kids Entrepreneurship Awareness Week." (Passed on 2023-06-09)
  2. A4055 - The New Jersey Ireland Trade Commission has been established in the Department of State to further facilitate trade relations with Ireland. (Passed on 2023-06-07)
  3. SJR71 - May of each year will be recognized as "Arthritis Awareness Month" in New Jersey. (Passed on 2023-05-31)
  4. AR190 - The New Jersey legislature urges the United States Supreme Court to protect the freedom of reproductive choice, particularly in relation to mifepristone use and access. (Passed on 2023-05-25)
  5. AR189 - "Gun Violence Awareness Day" has been recognized in New Jersey. (Passed on 2023-05-25)
  6. A4866 - The Community Hazard Assistance Mitigation Program has been established, and the NJ Infrastructure Bank has been authorized to fund hazard mitigation and resilience projects. (Passed on 2023-05-25)
  7. AR131 - New Jersey's sister state relationship with Taiwan has been commemorated, highlighting the importance of this partnership. (Passed on 2023-05-25)
  8. AJR113 - The last full week of May has been established as "Period Poverty Awareness Week." (Passed on 2023-05-25)
  9. AR79 - The Division of Parks and Forestry has been urged to market and offer local NJ-based art and agricultural products at park sites, whenever possible. (Passed on 2023-05-25)
  10. S3349 - This bill requires the payment of tuition for certain non-resident public school students. (Passed on 2023-05-15)
  11. A4755 - Behavioral and mental health care providers are now permitted to operate within homeless shelters. (Passed on 2023-05-15)
  12. S2463 - School districts are now required to provide instruction on the prevention of Lyme Disease and other tick-borne diseases in K-12; the Department of Health will publish guidelines concerning ticks. (Passed on 2023-05-15)
  13. S2081 - This bill concerns the investigation of missing persons cases. (Passed on 2023-05-15)
  14. S921 - Telemarketers are now required to provide their name, mailing address, and telephone number of the person on whose behalf the call is made. (Passed on 2023-05-15)
  15. S761 - The Motor Vehicle Commission is now required to provide a notation on a driver's license or ID card of a diagnosis of autism spectrum disorder or communication disorder, upon request. (Passed on 2023-05-15)
  16. S249 - This bill implements guidelines concerning the purchase of catalytic converters. (Passed on 2023-05-15)
  17. SJR21 - October 11 of each year has been designated as the "Day of the Girl" in New Jersey. (Passed on 2023-05-15)
