Groundbreaking Ceremony Marks Expansion of Morris County Vocational School at CCM Campus

The new Career Training Center aims to expand vocational programs by 30% and provide specialized skill training to up to 500 additional students.

Randolph, NJ— On September 27th at 10 a.m., the Morris County Vocational School District (MCVSD) will break ground for its new Career Training Center at the County College of Morris (CCM) campus in Randolph. The expansion aims to increase the school district's vocational operations by 30% and offer specialized training programs that will better prepare high school students for both college and career opportunities.

The project, which costs a total of $24.8 million, will add 45,940 square feet to the CCM campus. The Morris County Board of County Commissioners has approved $6.2 million in funding, and the remaining $18.6 million will come from the state under the Securing Our Children’s Future (SOCF) Bond Act.

Scott Moffitt, Superintendent of MCVSD, said, “This new initiative allows students to pursue career training while gaining an industry-valued credential and college credits simultaneously. It puts students on a path to be career and college-ready, while completing high school graduation requirements in their local district.”

Building on an existing partnership between CCM and MCVSD, the new Career Training Center will give high school students more access to in-demand programs in various fields such as artificial intelligence, mechatronics, and renewable energy technology.

Focused Skill Development

The list of programs to be offered at the Career Training Center includes Medical Coding & Billing, Artificial Intelligence, Renewable Energy Technology, and several others aimed at preparing students for rewarding careers in high-demand industries.

The construction schedule is dependent on weather conditions and material supply chain logistics. The Career Training Center will be located next to the Advanced Manufacturing Center at CCM. The campus also has plans for a new Entrepreneurship and Culinary Science Center with a groundbreaking ceremony scheduled for November 2023.

A Win-Win for Students and Community

The new center has the potential to accommodate an additional 500 students in the school district. It operates on a share-time model for high school juniors and seniors, focusing on workforce development. Students will have the opportunity to earn up to 18 college credits, as well as industry-valued credentials, through work-based and project-based learning experiences.

Both projects strengthen the existing partnerships with local businesses and industries, aiming to prepare not just high school students, but also college students and adults for promising careers in high-demand sectors. The expansion comes as part of MCVSD's long-term strategy to enhance education and employment opportunities within Morris County.
