Morristown, NJ Facts Every Resident Should Know

Morristown will forever be known as the military capital of the American Revolution for acting as the home to many of our country's founders as well as a base for George Washington and his troops during the war's long winters. This is a fact known by all who live in or visit Morristown as historical landmarks can be seen through all three square miles of our town. 

Morristown was incorporated as a town in New Jersey on April 6, 1865, within Morris County (created in 1739 from parts of Hunterdon County). While originally a part of Morris Township, Morristown was set apart in 1895. Currently, Morristown has an approximate population of 20,000. With about three square miles of land, Morristown has a population density of ~6,500 people per square mile making it the 104th largest community in New Jersey (out of 565 municipalities). 

The largest employer in Morristown is Morristown Medical Center with around 5,500 employees

Morristown is a part of the 11th Congressional District, represented by Democrat Mikie Sherrill of Montclair. Morristown is a part of the 25th  Legislative District, represented in the State Senate by Republican Anthony M. Bucco of Boonton Township, and represented in the General Assembly by Republicans Brian Bergen of Denville and Aura K. Dunn of Mendham Borough. New Jersey is represented in the United States Senate by Democrats Cory Booker, Newark, and Bob Menendez, Harrison.

New Jersey is the eleventh most populated state in the country with the fifth smallest area making it the most densely populated state in the country. Only the District of Columbia (not a state but worth mentioning) has a higher population density.
