Pulaski Skyway to Experience Temporary Slowdowns Today for Bearing Work
Officials encourage motorists to use the New Jersey Turnpike Extension to avoid delays during the rehabilitation work on the historic Pulaski Skyway.
Motorists should anticipate temporary traffic slowdowns on the Pulaski Skyway in both directions this weekend due to necessary bearing work. The rehabilitation of the historic 91-year-old bridge in Jersey City continues to progress, leading to some traffic disruptions.
From 11:59 p.m. tonight, Friday, July 14, until 5 a.m. Saturday, July 15, there are scheduled to be 10 temporary traffic slowdowns in both directions on the Skyway. This slowdown is required to carry out the lifting of the Skyway at pier 53 near the Broadway Avenue ramp for structural bearing replacement work.
The New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) advises motorists to use the New Jersey Turnpike-Hudson County Extension to reach all destinations, including the Holland Tunnel, I-78, I-280/Route 7, and Route 1&9 Truck southbound, to bypass potential delays.
This work forms part of Contract 8B of the Pulaski Skyway rehabilitation project. This extensive project is being carried out through multiple construction contracts, with the Department carefully coordinating the Skyway project with other regional transportation infrastructure projects to minimize traffic congestion.
NJDOT provides a project hotline number, 973-776-7400, and an email, Pulaski.Skyway@dot.nj.gov, for anyone with questions, concerns, or suggestions about the ongoing work.
The exact timing of the work is subject to change depending on weather conditions or other factors. To stay updated on real-time traffic information, motorists are encouraged to check NJDOT's traffic information website, www.511nj.org.
