Vehicle Fire and Construction Cause Delays in Morris County
Travel delays on major Morris County highways as emergency services respond to a vehicle fire on I-80 and construction projects keep lanes closed.
In a series of unfortunate events, a vehicle fire on I-80 and multiple construction activities in the vicinity have caused traffic delays in Morristown, New Jersey.
The vehicle fire erupted today on I-80 eastbound, east of Exit 43 - I-287 in Parsippany-Troy Hills Township. The incident, reported at 11:24 am, resulted in the closure of two left lanes. The situation on the ground remains fluid as emergency services work to douse the flames and ensure the safety of motorists.
In a closely linked development, traffic delays were reported on I-80 eastbound from west of Exit 42 - US 202/Littleton Rd to east of Exit 43 - I-287. As of 11:23 am, the current travel time was less than five minutes. The delays are believed to be due to the vehicle fire incident as well as an ongoing construction project.
Construction activities on I-80 westbound between Exit 43 - I-287 in Parsippany-Troy Hills Township have caused further disruption. As of 9:50 am, one to two lanes were closed due to construction, with a second lane scheduled to remain closed from 09:30 AM to 02:30 PM.
In addition to I-80, other highways were also affected by various construction projects. On NJ 10 westbound in the vicinity of US 202, the right shoulder was closed until 3:00 PM. NJ 15 northbound witnessed closures in two locations: near CR 699/Berkshire Valley Rd in Rockaway Township with one right lane closed until 2:00 PM, and in the area of Taylor Rd in Jefferson Township with one left lane closed until 1:00 PM. NJ 23 in both directions, from north of Alexander Avenue in Pequannock Township to north of Maple Lake Road in Kinnelon, also had its right shoulder closed until 3:00 PM.
Additionally, construction on NJ 124, from the vicinity of I-287 in Morristown to the vicinity of Alexander Avenue in Madison, has been underway since 8:00 am. All lanes remained open as of the reporting time, and construction is set to continue until 3:00 PM.
