Joint Operation Leads to Apprehension of Alleged Car Burglar in Madison

K-9 Unit instrumental in tracking down 20-year-old suspect, Thomas Rivera.

MADISON, NJ - Early this morning, the teamwork between the Morris County Sheriff's Office, Madison Police, and the Morris County Office of Emergency Management led to the capture of a man allegedly involved in a car burglary.

Responding to a call about a suspicious individual in the Noe Avenue neighborhood, the combined forces sprang into action. Notably, the Morris County Sheriff's Office canine team of Detective Marc Adamsky and K-9 Tim succeeded in establishing a trail, leading to the suspect's location in the Crestview Avenue area of Madison Borough.

The suspect, identified as 20-year-old Thomas Rivera from Jersey City, was found in possession of keys that linked him to a vehicle burglary incident earlier in the day in Madison.

Sheriff James M. Gannon voiced his concerns about such criminal activities, saying, “This criminal activity is too prevalent in our communities. Potentially dangerous individuals are frequently attempting to victimize good people. I am so pleased to see our partnerships working together and succeeding; all with the resolve of keeping us safe."

Echoing this sentiment, Madison Borough Police Chief John R. Miscia commended the officers for their swift and coordinated actions. "The quick thinking and great investigative teamwork by both our officers of the Madison Police Department, and our partners at the Morris County Office of Emergency Management and Morris County Sheriff's Office was evident following the arrest of Mr. Rivera. The fine police work is a testament to the strong partnership that we have between our Morris County agencies.”

It is important to note that while Thomas Rivera is a suspect in this incident, he is considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. As such, the actions he's reported to have taken are, at this stage, only allegations.
