Mount Laurel Resident Faces Charges for Possessing Explosive Devices

Federal authorities announced charges against a Burlington County man for carrying pipe bombs.

In a startling discovery, Jeremy Giliberti, 52, from Mount Laurel, New Jersey, has been charged with the possession of destructive devices, as confirmed by U.S. Attorney Philip R. Sellinger. Giliberti is set to appear before U.S. Magistrate Judge Douglas E. Arpert in Trenton federal court.

This charge stems from an incident on July 26, 2023. Officers from the Hamilton Township Police Division pulled over Giliberti's vehicle, leading to a search that unveiled a concerning cache. Found in a duffle bag on the vehicle's front passenger-side floorboard were four pipe bombs. The details of these devices are unnerving: two encased in 5-inch steel pipes and two in cardboard tubing secured with duct tape, all filled with metal pellets, an explosive mixture, and a pyrotechnic fuse.

The seriousness of this offense is reflected in the potential penalty. Being found guilty of possessing a destructive device could result in a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison and a fine of up to $250,000.

The swift actions and collaborative efforts of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, Newark Field Division, the Hamilton Township Police Division, the New Jersey State Police Bomb Unit, and the Mercer County Prosecutor’s Office were crucial in this investigation. Their combined expertise under the respective leaderships of Special Agent in Charge Bryan Miller, Chief Kenneth R. DeBoskey, Col. Patrick J. Callahan, and Prosecutor Angelo J. Onofri led to Giliberti's arrest.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Tracey Agnew of the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Trenton represents the government in this case.

It is important to note that the charges against Giliberti are allegations at this stage, and he is entitled to the presumption of innocence until proven guilty.
