New Jersey Resident Among Those Killed in Attack That Injured Over 40 Troops

Morris County Mourns Loss of Three U.S. Army Reserve Soldiers in Jordan Drone Strike

MORRIS COUNTY, NJ – The Morris County Board of County Commissioners expressed deep sorrow and condemnation over the recent loss of three U.S. Army Reserve soldiers, including a New Jersey resident, in a drone strike in Jordan. The attack, which occurred over the weekend, has been a significant blow to the community and the nation.

Sgt. William Jerome Rivers, 46, from Willingboro, New Jersey, was among those killed in the strike. He was a member of the 926th Engineer Brigade based at Fort Moore, Georgia, alongside Spc. Breonna Alexsondria Moffett, 23, from Savannah, GA, and Spc. Kennedy Ladon Sanders, 24, from Waycross, GA. All three served as reservists and their untimely demise has left a profound impact.

Sgt. Rivers' distinguished service is marked by numerous awards and decorations, including the Army Achievement Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, and several others.

The drone strike not only claimed lives but also resulted in injuries to over 40 troops. According to the Pentagon, the injuries varied from cuts and bruises to brain injuries. Eight of the wounded were medically evacuated, with three being sent to Landstuhl Regional Medical Center in Germany, and five others who suffered minor traumatic brain injuries were expected to return to duty.

This attack is part of over 150 attacks on U.S. troops in the Middle East since the initiation of terrorist attacks by Hamas on Israel on October 7. It is notably the first attack in which American service members were killed.

The Morris County Board of County Commissioners, along with the entire community, mourns the loss of these brave soldiers and extends its deepest sympathies to their families and loved ones. The attack underlines the ongoing risks faced by U.S. military personnel stationed overseas and the continuing challenges of maintaining peace and security in the region.
