New Jersey Launches My Career NJ to Enhance Job Training and Employment Opportunities

Interactive Digital Platform Aims to Personalize the Job Search Experience with Advanced Tools and Resources

The State of New Jersey has unveiled My Career NJ, an interactive website aimed at boosting employment prospects for its residents by providing access to personalized career resources, training programs, and online classes.

Announced by Governor Phil Murphy, Labor Commissioner Robert Asaro-Angelo, and Chief Innovation Officer Dave Cole, the platform is designed to support job seekers in navigating the job market more effectively, offering services in both English and Spanish.

My Career NJ introduces two key digital tools: the NJ Training Explorer and the NJ Career Navigator.

The Training Explorer allows users to filter through various training programs, offering insights into tuition assistance and information on programs tailored to meet individual skill development needs.

Meanwhile, the Career Navigator uses big data and machine learning to generate personalized job and career recommendations, taking into account users' skills, employment history, and professional goals.

The launch of My Career NJ is part of New Jersey's commitment to expanding employment opportunities and supporting residents in achieving their career aspirations. The platform is expected to connect New Jerseyans with in-demand career opportunities, aiding them in finding meaningful employment.

Developed with contributions from hundreds of New Jersey residents, training providers, career coaches, and academic experts, My Career NJ underwent extensive testing before its release. This collaborative effort included feedback from users to ensure the platform meets the needs of those it aims to serve.

The development of My Career NJ was facilitated by a partnership between the New Jersey Department of Labor and Workforce Development, the New Jersey State Office of Innovation, and Research Improving People’s Lives (RIPL), a tech-for-social-good nonprofit.

The project received philanthropic support from the Lumina Foundation and Schmidt Futures, reflecting a broad-based effort to enhance the state's employment services.

Additionally, the creation of My Career NJ was supported by the Resident Experience Initiative (ResX), funded through the federal American Rescue Plan. This initiative aims to streamline and improve the delivery of benefits and services to New Jersey residents, building on the state's use of human-centered design and agile development practices during the COVID-19 pandemic.

My Career NJ represents a significant step forward in New Jersey's efforts to address the evolving needs of its workforce, leveraging technology to facilitate access to vital career development resources and opportunities.
