Local Karate Academy Owner Sentenced in Criminal Sexual Contact Case
Morris County Judicial System Takes Action in Protecting Vulnerable Community Members
Morristown, NJ - In a recent development that has captured the attention of the Morris County community, Raymond Ziesse, a 52-year-old Chester resident and owner of the Mount Olive Karate Academy in Flanders, has been sentenced following charges of Criminal Sexual Contact.
Morris County Prosecutor Robert J. Carroll, Chief of Detectives Robert McNally, and Mount Olive Police Chief Michael Spitzer announced the conclusion that has stirred concerns among residents.
Ziesse was indicted in December 2023 for engaging in a sexual relationship with a former adult student who attended his karate academy. This student, described as an adult with cognitive and developmental disabilities, was involved with Ziesse between May and August 2018 at the Mount Olive Karate Academy dojo. The nature of the relationship and the vulnerability of the student placed this case at the forefront of the community's and law enforcement's efforts to protect those at risk.
On February 9, 2024, Ziesse entered a guilty plea to one count of fourth-degree Criminal Sexual Contact. In response, on March 15, 2024, Judge Stephen J. Taylor, P.J.Cr., handed down a sentence of two years of probation for Ziesse.
Prosecutor Carroll thanked the Mount Olive Township Police Department and the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office’s Sex Crimes/Child Endangerment Unit for their diligent work in investigating and prosecuting this sensitive case. The sentencing not only underscores the legal system's commitment to justice for vulnerable populations but also serves as a stark reminder of the responsibilities held by those in positions of influence and trust.
The community's reaction to this case has been one of concern and a call for more stringent measures to ensure the safety of vulnerable populations. As the legal proceedings conclude, the focus shifts towards healing and protection for potentially vulnerable members of society.
