Morris County Seeks Public's Help on 40th Anniversary of Missing Person Case

Authorities renew their appeal for information on the 1984 disappearance of Montville resident Edward Lawrence DuBarry.

Marking 40 years since the disappearance of Edward Lawrence DuBarry, Morris County Prosecutor Robert J. Carroll, Chief of Detectives Robert McNally, and Montville Police Chief Andrew Caggiano are appealing to the public for assistance in locating the Montville man. DuBarry was last seen on September 7, 1984, and law enforcement continues to seek information on his whereabouts.

DuBarry, who was 36 years old at the time of his disappearance, was last seen at his home near Church Lane and Two Bridges Road in Towaco, NJ. His vehicle, a 1974 Chevrolet pickup truck, was found on September 14, 1984, at Resort Point in Delaware Water Gap.

An investigation revealed that DuBarry’s credit card was used multiple times on the day he disappeared. The first use was to pay for a room at the Howard Johnson Hotel on Route 211 in Middletown, New York, followed by charges at a truck stop in Columbia, New Jersey, and a gas station in Matamoras, Pennsylvania. Four days later, his card was used again at a gas station in Pompton Plains.

DuBarry, who would be 76 years old today, is described as a white male with blue eyes, standing 5’5” tall and weighing around 140 pounds. He had brown hair at the time of his disappearance and has scars on his chin, right elbow, and finger.

Authorities are urging anyone with information on DuBarry’s disappearance to contact the Morris County Prosecutor's Office Missing Persons Unit at 973-285-6200. The investigation remains ongoing, and law enforcement hopes renewed public attention can provide vital leads in the case.
