Road Closures, Construction, Delays Across Morris County
Lane closures impact I-287, US 46, and NJ 23 through late afternoon, causing delays for local commuters.
Morris County motorists should expect significant delays due to ongoing construction on key routes, including I-287, US 46, and NJ 23. Numerous lane closures along these corridors will continue to impact traffic flow throughout the day, with projects expected to last until late afternoon.
Construction on I-287 northbound is affecting traffic between Exit 35 (NJ 124) in Morristown and Exit 41 (I-80) in Parsippany-Troy Hills. The right lane has been closed since 10:00 a.m. and will remain inaccessible until 2:00 p.m. Further north on I-287, near Exit 47 (US 202 in Montville Township), an additional closure affects the right shoulder, which is expected to last until 3:00 p.m.
Multiple closures on US 46 are also disrupting traffic in both directions. On US 46 in Denville Township, construction near I-80 is blocking one right lane and the shoulder, with closures anticipated until 3:00 p.m. Similar restrictions apply on US 46 eastbound near I-80 in Netcong, where the left lane remains closed until 3:00 p.m. In Parsippany-Troy Hills Township, lanes are impacted at various intersections, with the deceleration and acceleration lanes closed near I-287 and several local exits. These restrictions, affecting both directions, are also scheduled to continue until 3:00 p.m.
Further delays on US 46 are expected near Rockaway Township, Mountain Lakes, and Pequannock, where additional lane and shoulder closures will affect eastbound and westbound travel until 3:00 p.m. In particular, construction in Mountain Lakes has closed the right shoulder on US 46 eastbound from west of CR 618/Mountain Lakes Boulevard to west of CR 654/Cherry Hill Road, as well as on US 46 westbound from CR 654/Cherry Hill Road back to CR 618/Mountain Lakes Boulevard. In Parsippany-Troy Hills, acceleration and deceleration lanes remain closed in both directions of US 46, adding to traffic congestion.
Additionally, construction on NJ 23 in Pequannock Township has closed the right lane and shoulder in both directions near CR 680/Jackson Avenue. This closure, which began at 7:00 a.m., is expected to remain in effect until 4:00 p.m., extending the potential delays in the area.
Due to these closures, motorists traveling through Morris County should plan for delays and consider alternative routes where possible. For up-to-date information, drivers are encouraged to consult the New Jersey Department of Transportation’s website or use local traffic applications.
