Morristown Area Drivers Face Multiple Road Closures and Lane Restrictions Amid Construction and Repairs
Highway projects bring lane closures and delays to Morristown, Denville, and surrounding townships, impacting major routes throughout the day.
Road maintenance and construction across northern New Jersey is impacting major routes near Morristown and surrounding areas, causing closures and lane restrictions that could affect traffic flow throughout the day. From Morristown’s local streets to major highways like US 46 and I-287, here are the latest updates on roadway projects and temporary closures.
As of 1:00 p.m., NJ 23 is undergoing construction in both directions between Maple Lake Road in Butler and north of Paterson Hamburg Turnpike in West Milford Township. All lanes remain open southbound, though drivers are advised to plan accordingly as southbound traffic may experience interruptions until 3:00 p.m.
In Morristown, US 202 southbound is currently closed south of CR 617/Sussex Avenue due to electrical repairs. The lane closure, which began at 11:03 a.m., is expected to cause delays until repairs are completed. Motorists are advised to use alternate routes to avoid delays.
Construction along I-287 is ongoing, with lane restrictions affecting northbound traffic. Starting at 10:00 a.m., the right lane between Exit 35 (NJ 124 in Morristown) and Exit 41 (I-80 in Parsippany-Troy Hills) is closed, with work expected to continue until 2:00 p.m. In a separate section of I-287, northbound near Exit 47 (US 202 in Montville Township), the left lane is closed due to construction activities that began at 9:00 a.m. and are set to conclude at 2:00 p.m.
Extensive work is also underway on US 46, with construction impacting both directions across multiple locations. Since 9:00 a.m., eastbound lanes near NJ 159/Bloomfield Avenue in Montville Township to east of CR 618/Paulison Avenue in Clifton have experienced right shoulder closures, expected to last until 3:00 p.m. In Denville Township, the deceleration lane eastbound near I-80 is closed until the same time, as is the right lane in both directions east of I-80.
Additional restrictions on US 46 include closures on the right shoulder near Main Street (CR 644) in Denville, as well as lane closures from Mountain Lakes Boulevard (CR 618) to Cherry Hill Road (CR 654) in Mountain Lakes. Construction began at 8:00 a.m., affecting the right shoulders eastbound and westbound, and is anticipated to continue until 3:00 p.m. Nearby, US 46 eastbound from US 202/Parsippany Boulevard to I-287 in Parsippany-Troy Hills has the deceleration lane closed, as does the westbound stretch between I-287 and US 202, impacting one right lane in both directions.
Finally, construction in Rockaway Township on US 46 eastbound affects the area near CR 644/Main Street, where both the right shoulder and deceleration lane are closed. Additionally, one right lane remains closed east of CR 644/Main Street, with these lane restrictions expected to lift by 3:00 p.m.
As construction and repairs continue through the day, drivers are encouraged to plan alternative routes to reduce travel delays.
