Monmouth County Man Faces Federal Charges in Armed Bank Robbery
Wall Township resident accused of wielding firearm during $17,000 bank heist
A Wall Township man, Jeffrey L. Kniffin, 50, made his initial appearance in federal court today on charges of armed bank robbery, according to U.S. Attorney Philip R. Sellinger. Kniffin is accused of robbing a Wall Township bank on October 23, 2024, where he allegedly displayed a firearm and fled with over $17,000 in cash before being apprehended minutes later.
Kniffin appeared before U.S. Magistrate Judge Rukhsanah L. Singh in Trenton federal court and remains detained pending a detention hearing scheduled for November 25, 2024.
Court documents allege that Kniffin entered the bank and demanded cash from a teller, displaying a firearm while warning employees, “Don’t do anything stupid.” Authorities reported recovering a loaded firearm and the stolen cash upon Kniffin’s arrest shortly after the incident.
If convicted, Kniffin faces up to 25 years in prison and a $250,000 fine for the armed bank robbery charge.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office emphasized that the charges are allegations, and Kniffin is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
