New Jersey Department of Labor Offers Real-World Experience to Postsecondary Students Through iLEAD Summer Internship Program.

The New Jersey Department of Labor and Workforce Development (NJDOL) has announced the opening of applications for its summer internship program, iLEAD (Intern Learning Experience for Achievement and Development). The program, which aims to provide valuable work experience to postsecondary students, will run from June 26 to August 4, 2023. Applications will be accepted through April 5.

Interns can expect to earn $23.14 per hour during the six-week, project-based program, where they will be involved in research, developing action plans, and more. Each intern will be assigned a supervisor to serve as a mentor and guide throughout the program.

Labor Commissioner Robert Asaro-Angelo expressed enthusiasm for the initiative, stating, "The Department of Labor and Workforce Development is thrilled to provide this opportunity for students to get real experience in the exciting and rewarding public sector. Through this program, our interns will benefit from the decades of knowledge shared by their mentors, while honing their purpose and passion to guide them in the next steps of their careers."

The program, which hosted 62 interns in 2022, with several securing full- or part-time employment with the Department, aims to hire about 50 interns this summer. Applicants must be current postsecondary (undergraduate, graduate, or doctoral) students during the internship period.

NJDOL's iLEAD program offers a competitive pay rate, engaging program activities, networking opportunities, guest speakers, and project-based assignments that foster learning. The program promotes mentorship between supervisors and interns, with interns showcasing their respective projects in a 3 to 5-minute final presentation.

To apply for the iLEAD summer internship, interested candidates should submit a completed application packet, resume, and cover letter to NJDOLInterns@dol.nj.gov with "Internship ID #202303" in the subject line. The application deadline is April 5, 2023. More information about the program and the application process can be found on the NJDOL website.

NJDOL is committed to cultivating future leaders in public service through its robust summer internship program, providing professional opportunities within the Department that utilize and build interns' knowledge, skills, and abilities.
