Chatham Township Energizes Community with New Electric Vehicle Charging Stations at Nash and Shunpike Fields

Chatham Township is now a more eco-friendly and electric vehicle (EV) ready community with the unveiling of new EV charging stations at Nash Field and Shunpike Field. The Chatham Township Committee, in partnership with the Environmental Commission, recently announced the addition of these state-of-the-art Blink Mobile/SemaConnect charging stations, which are now open for public use.

Located in two popular outdoor recreation areas, these charging stations make it easy for residents to power up their EVs while enjoying local sports and leisure activities. Each location is equipped with two Level 2 chargers, capable of providing up to 25 miles of range per hour of charging. This makes them perfect for topping up EV batteries while running errands or participating in outdoor activities.

The user-friendly charging stations can be activated through a mobile app, mobile wallet, or "tap to pay" credit card. The app also offers real-time updates on charging status and cost, making it a breeze for EV owners to stay informed about their charging sessions.

"We are thrilled to introduce these charging stations to the community," said Mayor Ashley Felice. "As electric vehicles become increasingly popular, it's important for our community to have convenient access to charging stations. Our hope is that these charging stations will make it easier for residents and visitors to power up their vehicles and continue their daily activities with ease."

The EV charging stations' installation was made possible by a $16,000 grant from the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection's "It Pay$ to Plug In" program. In their first quarter of operation, the charging stations have already delivered nearly 300-kilowatt hours of electricity, generating revenue for the Township while providing a valuable public service.

The Chatham Township Environmental Commission developed the grant application, while the Department of Public Works installed the equipment in-house to complete the project.
