River LINE Light Rail Brings “Polar Express” to Life

Today, Santa Claus himself delivered presents to children from underserved communities on the River LINE “Polar Express!”

NJ TRANSIT hosted a very special guest on the River LINE Today, Saturday, December 10, as Santa Claus himself delivered goodies to kids from underserved communities on the River LINE “Polar Express” ride for The Salvation Army.

This is the first time that NJ TRANSIT has partnered with The Salvation Army for this special holiday program to spread cheer and the warmth of the holiday season to these very special children, along with the family members who accompanied them.

Partnering for the first time with The Salvation Army this year has been a pleasure for NJ TRANSIT, and a joy for so many special children,” said NJ TRANSIT President & CEO Kevin Corbett.

"The Salvation Army is delighted to partner with our good friends at NJ TRANSIT and United States Cold Storage for this special, inaugural event,” said Major Keith Maynor, Administrator, The Salvation Army - Camden, NJ. “This holiday season is about giving, especially to those that continue to face grave uncertainties. After months of planning, we are humbled to be a part of this joyous occasion."

The “Polar Express” ride departed the Waterfront Entertainment Complex for its two-hour festive ride between Camden and Burlington South.

New Jersey Transit Police and the Camden Fire Department accompanied families to the light rail station where the honored guests were given a golden ticket before boarding the “Polar Express”.

The children and their families then stepped on board the specially decorated holiday wonderland light rail vehicle complete with caroling volunteer elves.
