LABORER POSITION FOR DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC
WORKS and/or WATER DEPARTMENT
JOB DESCRIPTION
The laborer position performs a variety of maintenance and repair tasks necessary for the operation and utilization of the parks, roads and township property and related infrastructure. Additionally, other tasks will include snowplowing operations and the operation of small equipment and any and all other related duties to normal maintenance with water, sewer, public works and
parks.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS FOR ALL APPLICANTS:
High School Diploma or GED Equivalent. Valid NJ Driver License, CDL License or ability to obtain a valid CDL License within 6 months.
Availability for scheduled weekend duties as well as availability 7/24 for emergency callouts. Must be able to respond to Public Works facility for all emergencies within 1 hour notice.
Specific work tasks include:
- Operate small equipment including, skid steer loaders, small tractors, and small backhoe.
- Inspect and maintain all Township Parks and property including all baseball, softball, soccer, lacrosse, and football fields.
- Assist in all aspects of Public Works and Public Utilities departments as directed.
- Must be able to operate or willing to learn to operate different types of vehicles and equipment such as a heavy loader, vac truck dump, trucks, etc.
- Must be available 7/24 for snow plowing and assisting when necessary and directed to assist other departments including Roads and Parks.
- Must be able to perform mowing of lawns, tree cutting, and chipping.
- Inspect and maintain sewer collection systems including repair or breaks, cleaning of lines, maintenance of sewer structures. Service lift stations pumps, controls and ground maintenance.
- Inspect and maintain wells, servicing of hydrants, valves, curb boxes and water service lines.
- Install/replace water meters and meter reading equipment.
- Assist water treatment plant operations as directed.
