Public Meeting for Berkshire Valley Road Truck Circulation Project
Roxbury Township residents and business owners are invited to the final virtual public meeting for the Berkshire Valley Road Truck Circulation Project, set to take place on March 15 from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Morris County and the North Jersey Transportation Planning Authority (NJTPA) are collaborating on this project, which aims to raise the height of the Chester Branch Railroad trestle over Berkshire Valley Road and improve the Dell Avenue intersection.
Morris County Commissioner Stephen Shaw, a member of the NJTPA Board of Trustees, emphasized the importance of this project for economic growth and the quality of life in Roxbury Township and Morris County. The virtual meeting will present the study's findings and recommendations, providing residents with an opportunity to ask questions and provide feedback on the project's proposed changes.
The Chester Branch Railroad bridge, currently only offering an 11-foot-5-inch clearance over Berkshire Valley Road, has been the site of numerous truck collisions, causing road closures and significant delays in the area. The NJTPA study started early last year to evaluate potential options to eliminate the height restriction and improve traffic flow in the area.
This meeting marks the first step in the capital project delivery process, which could secure federal funding for future project phases, including design, permitting, and construction. The NJTPA is managing and funding this study through its Freight Concept Development Program, with preferred alternatives for improving the bridge and intersection to be selected at the end of the study. These projects will then be eligible for grant funding opportunities for design and construction.
Roxbury Township residents and business owners are encouraged to participate in the virtual meeting and provide feedback to the project team via email. With the proposed changes, this project aims to enhance the safety and efficiency of Berkshire Valley Road and the Chester Branch Railroad for all users, supporting the area's continued growth and prosperity.
