New Laws Boost Support for Morristown Small Businesses, Enhance Business Action Center Services

Morristown, NJ - Governor Phil Murphy has signed three bills (A-4748/S-3195, A-4749/S-3204, & A-4753/S-3208) aimed at supporting small businesses in New Jersey. The legislation, part of Assembly Speaker Craig J. Coughlin's Small Business Legislative Package, will enhance customer service at the New Jersey Business Action Center, create a publicly available small business manual, and allow businesses a grace period to resolve certain violations without incurring fines.

The new laws aim to make New Jersey a more attractive location for starting and growing small businesses. Governor Murphy emphasized the importance of small businesses in local communities, stating that the legislation will help "attract, retain, and inspire" them to expand in the state.

The Business Action Center, which assists New Jersey companies in navigating state government rules and resources, will be strengthened by the new legislation, according to New Jersey Secretary of State Tahesha Way. Assembly Speaker Coughlin expressed his gratitude to the Governor and acknowledged the input from business leaders in crafting the legislation.

Senator Vin Gopal highlighted the benefits of giving businesses a chance to correct minor violations without facing steep fines or punishment, providing breathing room and extra time for full compliance. Assemblyman Roy Freiman also emphasized the importance of creating an environment that attracts new businesses and allows existing ones to prosper, by allowing businesses the opportunity to fix harmless mistakes without penalties.
