Quick Action Averts Potential Tragedy: Two Students Arrested for Gun Possession at Morris Knolls High School

Morris Knolls High School staff and Denville Police Department work together to ensure the safety of students and staff.

A potential crisis was averted at Morris Knolls High School yesterday when attentive staff members discovered two students in possession of a gun. Morris County Prosecutor Robert J. Carroll, Chief of Detectives Robert McNally, and Denville Police Chief Frank Perna confirmed the arrest of the two students following the incident.

On March 23, 2023, the Denville Police Department received a report from the school staff that two students were found with a gun on campus. The School Resource Officer, along with other responding officers, arrived on the scene quickly, and found the students and the weapon already secured by the school staff.

The two juveniles were arrested and charged with unlawful possession of a weapon and related charges. Due to the involvement of minors, no further information will be released.

Authorities have confirmed that there was no active threat to the school, staff, or students. The situation remains under investigation. In the wake of this incident, Denville Police Department emphasizes the importance of the safety and security of all Denville schools.

To reassure the community, the Denville Police will increase their presence at the school over the next few days to help alleviate any fears or concerns.

Prosecutor Robert Carroll expressed his gratitude to the Morris Knolls administration and staff for their quick thinking and cooperation, which ultimately prevented a potentially dangerous situation from escalating.

Though a criminal complaint has been filed, it is important to remember that the accused juveniles are presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
