State Opens Certification Process for LGBTQ+-Owned Businesses

New Jersey Opens Doors to Opportunities for LGBTQ+-Owned Businesses

The Department of the Treasury has begun accepting registrations for a state-backed certification for LGBTQ+-owned businesses, following up on Executive Order 295 issued last year. The certification aims to help these businesses grow by opening doors to contracting opportunities at the local, state, federal, and private sector levels.

Governor Phil Murphy and Treasurer Elizabeth Maher Muoio announced the opening of the certification portal, which supports the LGBTQ+ community by enhancing economic opportunities and providing visibility for their businesses.

In New Jersey, we wear our diversity as a badge of honor,” said Governor Murphy.

To qualify, a business must be at least 51% owned, operated, and controlled by individuals who identify as LGBTQ+ and be considered a “going concern” with sufficient resources to continue operating indefinitely. Other criteria include ownership, business entity status, and licensing.

Once certified, businesses will be listed on the Selective Assistance Vendor Information (SAVI) public database. The certification process is now live and can be accessed online, with the usual $100 fee waived indefinitely.
