Route 206 Lane Closures Scheduled for Pavement Preservation Project in Somerset County
Motorists Advised to Expect Delays and Exercise Caution During Overnight Work
(Brown Avenue in Hillsborough and Route 28 in Raritan) – The New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) announced overnight lane closures on Route 206 this week as a pavement preservation project commences in Somerset County. From 8 p.m. tonight, Monday, April 10, until 6 a.m. tomorrow, Tuesday, April 11, and continuing on Tuesday, April 11 through Friday, April 14 at the same times, lane closures will be performed in both directions between Brown Avenue in Hillsborough and Route 28 in Raritan.
The closures will involve a moving operation, beginning with left lane closures at 8 p.m. and progressing to the right lane. At least one lane of traffic will be maintained in both directions to minimize disruptions. These closures are necessary for the removal of raised pavement markers (RPMs) in preparation for the pavement preservation work, which will include applying a slurry seal and is expected to begin in May.
Motorists are advised to use caution, slow down, and anticipate delays while driving through the work zone. The $3.1 million federally-funded project aims to preserve approximately three miles of pavement on Route 206 between Brown Avenue in Hillsborough and Route 28 in Raritan, Somerset County. The project is expected to be completed in the fall of 2023.
The precise timing of the work is subject to change due to weather or other factors. Motorists are encouraged to check NJDOT's traffic information website, www.511nj.org, for real-time travel information and updates on the project.
