Florham Park Water Department Begins Annual Hydrant Flushing Program Today
FLORHAM PARK, NJ - The Florham Park Water Department kicked off its annual hydrant flushing program today, April 11, 2023, to ensure the continued delivery of high-quality water to its customers. The program, which will run from 9:00 A.M. to 2:30 P.M., is expected to take approximately two weeks to complete.
This essential maintenance initiative serves two main purposes: to flush sediments from mainline pipes and to verify the proper operation of fire hydrants. By conducting this program, the Florham Park Water Department aims to improve water quality for all its customers.
Residents are advised to be cautious during the flushing process. If you see a Borough crew flushing a hydrant on your street, avoid using tap water, washing machines, or dishwashers until the process is complete. Motorists are also urged to drive carefully and treat hydrant flushing crews like any other road construction crew.
After hydrant flushing, residents may experience some temporary water discoloration. If this occurs, shut off the water and wait several minutes before checking the clarity by running cold water. If the water remains discolored, wait a few more minutes and check again. The discoloration is not harmful and affects only the water's appearance.
To minimize potential issues, avoid washing laundry during scheduled flushing times. Once the water runs clear at the tap, wash a load of dark clothes first. If water pressure or volume appears low, check faucet screens for trapped particles.
While some residents may experience slight discoloration for a few hours, this is not harmful to health. Allowing the water to run until clear will remedy the situation. If you have any questions or concerns, please call the Florham Park Water Department at (973) 410-5471. The department appreciates your cooperation in helping to maintain the highest water quality for the community.
