Authorities Update Community on Investigation at Mount Olive High
Morris County Prosecutor Robert J. Carroll, Chief of Detectives Robert McNally, Morris County Sheriff James Gannon, and Mount Olive Police Chief Stephen Beecher announce the situation that prompted a lockdown at Mount Olive High School has been resolved. There is no danger to the community.
At about 10:30 a.m. on April 19, the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office was notified by the Mount Olive Police of a possible school threat. The Mt. Olive Police Department was made aware of the theft of a motor vehicle out of Roxbury Township, and a potential threat to Mount Olive High School. The Mount Olive Police Department, with the assistance of the Morris County Sheriff’s Office, initiated an investigation. An alert was put out for the stolen vehicle.
As a result, Mount Olive High School was placed into lockdown and a security perimeter was established. Other Mount Olive schools were placed into shelter in place.
Later that day, a New Jersey State Police officer pulled over a vehicle on Garden State Parkway near exit 64, and confirmed it to be the vehicle stolen out of Roxbury. The two occupants, an 18-year-old and a 17-year-old juvenile, were taken into custody without incident.
Once it was determined that there was no threat, the Mount Olive High School lockdown was lifted at about 1 p.m.
The investigation remains ongoing and as of Wednesday afternoon, no charges have been filed against the two occupants.
