History of 4/20, & Where to Find Weed in NJ

As April 20th, or 4/20, approaches, many people across the country will celebrate the infamous cannabis holiday by consuming marijuana or attending events that promote its use. But where did 4/20 originate?

The history of 4/20 dates back to the 1970s in California when a group of high school students known as “The Waldos” would meet at 4:20 p.m. to smoke marijuana. The term 4/20 became synonymous with cannabis use and eventually evolved into a holiday celebrated by marijuana enthusiasts around the world.

In New Jersey, where recreational cannabis was recently legalized, residents can legally purchase marijuana at several dispensaries across the state. Some of these locations include RISE at 196 3rd Avenue #3-C and 26–48 Bloomfield Ave, Botanist, The at 100 Century Drive, and Holistic Solutions LLC at 451 White Horse Pike.

Harmony Dispensary at 600 Meadowlands Parkway, Suite 15, Apothecarium Dispensary at 55 South Main St., Curaleaf at 191 Rte 130, and Garden State Dispensary (Ayr Wellness) at 950 US Highway 1 North are also locations where recreational cannabis is available in New Jersey.

Additionally, recreational cannabis can be purchased at BLOC (formerly Justice Grown) at 1761 North Olden Avenue, Valley Wellness LLC at 407 US-202, RISE at 145 Rt. 4 West, Unit #2, Ascend at 395 Bloomfield Ave, Apothecarium Dispensary at 1865 Springfield Avenue, and Curaleaf at 4237 US-130 South.
