New Jersey Traffic and construction Updates for April 21-25 – Middlesex, Hudson, Passaic Counties

New Jersey drivers can expect a few more construction projects and road closures this week. 

The New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) has announced various lane closures and ramp closures for bridge deck repairs and maintenance projects throughout Middlesex, Hudson, and Passaic Counties.

Route 9 southbound right lane closure beginning tonight in South Amboy and Sayreville, Middlesex County - At least one lane of traffic will be maintained

Beginning Friday, April 21, the right lane on Route 9 southbound will be closed for concrete deck repairs in South Amboy and Sayreville, Middlesex County. At least one lane of traffic will be maintained during the closure, which is expected to last until Tuesday, April 25. 

The closure is necessary to make concrete deck repairs to the bridge. The ramp to Raritan Street/Sayreville will remain open during construction, and at least one lane of traffic will be maintained overnight. 

The work is part of a $9.8 million state-funded maintenance project to repair concrete structures at various locations in eight counties throughout Central Jersey.

Route 3 ramps to Route 495 eastbound to be closed tonight in North Bergen Township, Hudson County - Route 495 eastbound right lane closure also required overnight

Similarly, ramps from Route 3 eastbound and westbound to Route 495 eastbound will be closed in North Bergen Township, Hudson County from 10 p.m. tonight until 12 p.m. Saturday, April 22, for bridge deck repairs. 

To avoid the ramp and lane closures, motorists on Route 3 eastbound are advised to utilize the Route 3 eastbound Express lanes to access Route 495 eastbound more quickly this weekend. 

The bridge deck repairs on Route 495 eastbound will require the detour of NJ Transit Bus Route 320, at the North Bergen Park and Ride Lot underneath Route 495. For more information see NJ Transit’s service advisory.

This is the second of three weekends requiring lane and ramp closures for bridge deck repairs. The work is part of a $22.6 million state-funded maintenance project to repair concrete structures at various locations in eight counties throughout North Jersey.

Route 19 northbound and southbound ramps to I-80 westbound to be closed tonight in Paterson, Passaic County - Closure necessary for bridge deck repairs

Meanwhile, in Passaic County, the ramp from Route 19 northbound to I-80 westbound and the ramp from Route 19 southbound to I-80 westbound will be closed starting at 10 p.m. on Friday, April 21 until 5 a.m. Saturday, April 22 for bridge deck repairs. 

The work is part of a $22.6 million state-funded maintenance project to repair concrete structures at various locations in eight counties throughout North Jersey.

Route 20 southbound lane closure starts tonight between Overlook Avenue and 18th Avenue in Paterson - Two lanes of traffic will be maintained during construction

Route 20 northbound lane closure starts tonight between Overlook Avenue and Route 4 ramp in Paterson - One lane of traffic will be maintained during construction

Lastly, there will be a lane closure on Route 20 southbound and northbound between Overlook Avenue and 18th Avenue and between Overlook Avenue and the ramp to Route 4, respectively. 

The $48.5 million federally-funded Route 20 Paterson Safety, Drainage, and Resurfacing project will make upgrades and repairs along approximately five miles of Route 20 in Clifton and Paterson, Passaic County. 

In addition to drainage improvements, the project will include repaving, guiderail replacement, lighting, and overhead sign installation, and upgrades to traffic signals, curbs and sidewalks. 

The project is expected to be completed by the fall of 2025.
