Essex Street Closure for Railroad Crossing Repairs This Week in Hackensack, Bergen County
Hackensack, NJ - Essex Street in Hackensack, Bergen County, is scheduled to be closed and detoured this week for railroad crossing repairs near Hackensack University Medical Center. The closure will affect the stretch of road between First Street/Polifly Road and State Street.
Starting at 9 a.m. tomorrow, Tuesday, April 25, and continuing until 9 a.m. on Tuesday, May 2, Essex Street will be closed in both directions to remove the existing railroad crossing. NJ TRANSIT will reconstruct the crossing and approaches during this time. Access for local traffic will be maintained, and detours will be in place.
The project aims to provide a safer and smoother railroad crossing by replacing the existing crossing with new concrete crossings and asphalt approaches. Funded by federal grants, this project is part of NJDOT's railroad grade-crossing safety program, which repairs, upgrades, or removes approximately 50 crossings each year across the state.
The exact timing of the work is subject to change due to weather or other factors. Motorists are encouraged to visit NJDOT's traffic information website at www.511nj.org for real-time travel updates.
