National Infant Immunization Week: NJ Health Department Highlights Importance of Childhood Vaccination
In recognition of National Infant Immunization Week (April 24-30), the New Jersey Department of Health (NJDOH) is reminding parents to ensure their infants are up to date on all vaccinations to protect them from preventable childhood diseases. As part of their awareness efforts, NJDOH will host a Facebook Live on May 3 at 6:30 p.m. to discuss and answer questions about COVID-19 vaccines for parents and caregivers.
Vaccinations by age two protect infants from 14 serious childhood diseases, including whooping cough (pertussis) and measles. NJDOH actively promotes childhood immunization and ensures greater access to vaccinations through programs like Hot Shots for Tots and Vaccines for Children (VFC).
Health Commissioner Judith Persichilli urges parents to consult with their healthcare providers about their children's vaccine status and catch up on any missed doses during the COVID-19 pandemic. Vaccines are safe, effective, and crucial in preventing life-threatening diseases.
