Railroad Crossing Repairs Close Temple Avenue in Hackensack, Bergen County
Hackensack, Bergen County - Temple Avenue will be closed for railroad crossing repairs between Memorial Way and the Target driveway near Hackensack University Medical Center from Thursday, April 27, 9 a.m. to Wednesday, May 3, 9 a.m. The closure is necessary to allow NJ TRANSIT to remove the existing railroad crossing and reconstruct its approaches.
During the construction period, access will be maintained for local traffic, and detours will be in place to ensure smooth traffic flow. The eastbound detour will direct motorists on Main Street to turn onto University Plaza Drive, then left onto Hackensack Avenue/CR 503 northbound, followed by a left turn onto Temple Avenue. For the westbound detour, motorists on Hackensack Avenue/CR 503 will be directed to turn onto University Plaza Drive, then right onto Main Street northbound, and finally, right onto Temple Avenue.
The railroad crossing repair work aims to provide a safer and smoother crossing experience by replacing the existing crossing with new concrete crossings and asphalt approaches. This federally-funded project is part of NJDOT's railroad grade-crossing safety program, which repairs, upgrades, or removes approximately 50 crossings each year across the state.
While the precise timing of the work may change due to weather or other factors, motorists are encouraged to check NJDOT's traffic information website at www.511nj.org for real-time travel information and updates.
