Shongum Lake Dredging Project & Special Assessment Update
Randolph Township Council is considering the introduction of a special assessment ordinance for the strategic dredging of Shongum Lake. The Shongum Lake Property Owners Association (SLPOA) has been conditionally awarded a $5,000,375 loan from the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (NJDEP), with a 2% interest rate over twenty years. The ordinance requires Randolph Township to act as co-applicant and co-borrower, assessing around 801 properties with lake usage rights. SLPOA has met the requirement of two-thirds support, with 538 petitions in favor. Public hearings and meetings will be held to discuss assessments and the project's continuation. More information can be found in the township's FAQ on the special assessment process.
