New Jersey Seeks Poll Workers for the 2023 Primary Election

The New Jersey Division of Elections, in collaboration with county election offices, is actively recruiting residents to serve as poll workers for the upcoming Primary Election on June 6, 2023. This initiative encourages citizens to actively participate in the democratic process while also earning compensation for their service.

Poll workers are set to earn $21.43 per hour during in-person early voting days, spanning from June 2 to 4, and a flat rate of $300 on the Primary Election Day itself.

New Jersey Secretary of State Tahesha Way urged citizens to seize the opportunity, stating, “Applicants who qualify will be paid to serve their community and our state.” She emphasized that participating as a poll worker offers a firsthand experience of the democratic process in action.

Assistant Secretary of State Lauren Zyriek Enriquez, also the Acting Director of the New Jersey Division of Elections, noted the essential role poll workers play in the election process. She called upon thousands of New Jersey citizens to step up and serve their communities during the early voting period and on Primary Day.

Eligibility for the role includes being a US citizen and a New Jersey resident, being a registered voter in the county of residence, and being at least 16 years old. High school and college students are particularly encouraged to apply. However, candidates running in the election are not eligible.

Interested individuals can apply through the website Pollworker.NJ.Gov. For more details about the June 6 Primary Election, visit Vote.NJ.Gov, contact local election officials, or call the Voter Information and Assistance Line at 1-877-NJ-Voter (1-877-658-6837).
