NJ TRANSIT Salutes Military with Complimentary Rides during Fleet Week

From May 24 to May 30, active-duty and reserve members of the military can ride for free on NJ TRANSIT as part of Fleet Week 2023 celebrations.

In recognition of Fleet Week 2023, NJ TRANSIT is extending a heartfelt tribute to members of the United States Armed Forces by offering them free rides across its entire system. This gesture of gratitude will be in effect from today, May 24, through to May 30. Active-duty and reserve military personnel, including members of the National Guard, can avail of this offer by either wearing their uniform or presenting a Military ID. More details can be found on the NJ TRANSIT website, njtransit.com/fleet.

“NJ TRANSIT is proud to thank our service men and women during this important military event in our region and over Memorial Day weekend,” said New Jersey Department of Transportation Commissioner and NJ TRANSIT Board Chair Diane Gutierrez-Scaccetti. “Your sacrifice, bravery, and strength do not go unnoticed.”

Echoing these sentiments, NJ TRANSIT President & CEO Kevin S. Corbett added, "As a Blue and Gold Officer for the U.S. Naval Academy and proud father of a Naval Academy graduate now serving as a U.S. Marine fighter pilot, I understand the sacrifices made by our military personnel. Offering complimentary rides on NJ TRANSIT is a small gesture of our gratitude for their service and dedication."

While complimentary rides for active and reserve service members are a highlight of Fleet Week, it's important to note that military dependents and retired military personnel also benefit from discounted travel on NJ TRANSIT throughout the year. They can avail of these discounts by presenting their valid military or military-dependent ID cards. Additionally, veterans with service-connected disabilities can present a valid Veterans Affairs (VA) identification card to use the one-way reduced ticket option.

Fleet Week New York, now in its 35th year, is a time-honored tradition and a unique opportunity for tri-state area residents to meet Sailors, Marines, and Coast Guardsmen, and experience firsthand the latest capabilities of today's maritime services. As NJ TRANSIT joins in these celebrations, it continues to honor and thank the brave individuals serving in the military, reaffirming its commitment to these heroes.
