Morris/Sussex Vicinage to Host Graduation for Recovery Court Program Participants
In a significant show of progress in battling drug addiction, the Morris/Sussex Vicinage will be conducting a graduation ceremony for seven participants who have successfully completed the Recovery Court Program in Sussex County. The ceremony is scheduled to take place on Thursday, June 22, at 9:30 a.m. in the historic courtroom situated on the second floor of the Sussex County Justice Center, located at 43-47 High St., Newton.
The event will be presided over by Superior Court Judge Robert M. Hanna, who will formally recognize and congratulate the graduates on their hard-earned achievements in recovery. Ken Palmisano, a Substance Abuse Counselor at Morris County Correctional Facility, is set to be the guest speaker for the occasion.
The recovery court program, an initiative of the Judiciary that operates within the Superior Court, is designed to address nonviolent drug-related cases. It offers a comprehensive approach to addiction recovery, necessitating the successful completion of five distinct phases of drug and alcohol treatment. These include stringent probation supervision, frequent drug testing, and virtual court appearances. This level of close monitoring not only facilitates the recovery journey but also allows for swift intervention in terms of therapeutic sanctions or reinstatement of criminal proceedings if participants fail to adhere to the program requirements.
Currently, the Recovery Court Program in Sussex County is assisting 83 individuals on their path to recovery.
