Sinkhole and Multiple Construction Events Disrupt Traffic across Morris County

Motorists are advised to exercise caution and plan their routes in advance due to widespread roadwork and an emerging sinkhole on US 46.

Morris County, NJ, June 27, 2023 - Commuters across New Jersey are experiencing traffic disruptions today due to a sinkhole and a series of construction events affecting major highways.

At 12:52 pm, the discovery of a sinkhole led to the closure of the right shoulder on US 46 eastbound, west of CR 637/Beverwyck Rd, in Parsippany-Troy Hills Township. Motorists are urged to approach with caution while authorities work to address the issue.

The sinkhole isn't the only obstacle commuters are facing today. A series of construction events are also disrupting traffic across various highways.

As of 12:49 pm, construction on US 46, both east and west of NJ 183/Netcong Circle in Roxbury Township, has led to the closure of the right shoulder. Work on this section is expected to continue until 3:30 pm.

From 9:00 am, there has been ongoing construction on NJ 15 in both directions near NJ 181/Espanong Rd/Weldon Rd in Jefferson Township, with the left lane closed until 3:00 pm. Additionally, on the same highway but in the vicinity of CR 699/Berkshire Valley Rd, the right lane has been closed for construction, with work set to continue until 2:00 pm.

Motorists using I-287 southbound are also experiencing disruptions due to construction work near Exit 52 - NJ 23 in Pequannock Township, which started at 9:00 am and is scheduled to last until 3:00 pm.

US 46 in both directions, from west of CR 642/Kenvil Ave in Roxbury Township to west of CR 669/Canfield Ave in Mine Hill Township, has also seen construction activity from 7:00 am with the right shoulder closed until 3:00 pm.

Finally, NJ 10 westbound near School St in Hanover Township is experiencing a construction-induced disruption with the right shoulder closed until 4:00 pm.

Drivers are encouraged to plan their routes in advance and exercise caution in these areas while the roadworks are ongoing.
