New Jersey Announces Certification Fee Holiday to Support Aspiring Educators

Governor Murphy's budget dedicates $5 million to alleviate financial burdens for aspiring educators

TRENTON, NJ - In an effort to address public school shortages and streamline the certification process, Governor Phil Murphy and the New Jersey Department of Education (NJDOE) have announced an Educator Certification Fee Holiday. The initiative, funded by $5 million from Governor Murphy's budget, will waive fees associated with educator certification applications, renewals, and related services from July 1, 2023 through June 30, 2024.

The program is intended to ease the financial burden on aspiring educators, lower barriers to entry into the teaching profession, and attract a diverse pool of talented individuals. By eliminating these financial obstacles, New Jersey aims to ensure its students receive a high-quality education from a cadre of dedicated educators.

Governor Murphy emphasized the integral role educators play in shaping future generations, and this initiative is part of his administration's broader efforts to grow the educational workforce.

"By waiving certification fees over the next year, we will further break down barriers and encourage aspiring educators to join this esteemed profession," said Governor Murphy.

The Certification Fee Holiday begins on July 1, 2023, and extends through June 30, 2024. During this period, individuals seeking educator certification will be exempt from typical fees associated with educator certification services.
