Chatham Township Initiates Pickleball Court Pilot Program
The Township of Chatham is launching a pickleball court "pilot program" in response to growing interest in the sport. This initiative is a collaboration between the Recreation Department and Public Works Department, aimed at meeting public demand and gathering feedback on the potential impact of this recreational activity.
The pilot program involves the conversion of the basketball court at the back of the upper Colony Pool Club parking lot into a temporary pickleball court. This re-purposing aims to assess the demand for pickleball and take into account feedback from local residents who could be affected by this sport's increasing popularity.
Starting this Saturday, July 22nd, the pickleball court will open for play on a first-come, first-serve basis from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., aligning with the operation hours of the Colony Pool Club. The club will provide free paddles and balls for anyone who needs them, available at the Colony Pool Office. Participants are kindly asked to respect others who also wish to play.
For any questions, feedback, or concerns about equipment, Recreation Director Larry McCann is available to address them. He can be reached via email at lmccann@chathamtownship.org.
The launch of this pilot program reflects Chatham Township's commitment to promoting new recreational activities and responding effectively to community interests.
