Chatham Township Kickstarts 2023 Road Resurfacing Initiative

Following adoption of Ordinance 2023-07, five local streets set for an upgrade in a $447,000 agreement.

Chatham Township is embarking on its 2023 Road Resurfacing Project, a significant infrastructure improvement initiative set to commence this summer, following the adoption of Ordinance 2023-07 and Resolution 2023-154 on July 18, 2023.

The adopted ordinance has dedicated $500,000 in capital funds to this project, paving the way for considerable enhancement in local infrastructure and, consequently, the quality of life for Chatham residents. The township's contract, valued at $447,000, has been awarded to Schifano Construction Corporation through the Morris County Cooperative Pricing Council.

Five local thoroughfares, including School Avenue, Thornley Avenue, Maple Street, Floral Street, and Spring Street, have been designated for resurfacing. The tentative schedule for this project includes milling operations on Thursday, July 27 and Friday, July 28, followed by paving on Thursday, August 3 and Friday, August 4. However, the dates are subject to changes depending on the weather conditions.

Chatham Township's Mayor Ashley Felice expressed her thoughts on the initiative, stating, "This investment in our Township's infrastructure underscores our commitment to ensuring the safety and wellbeing of our residents. We understand the temporary inconvenience that road resurfacing can bring, but we are confident that these upgrades will greatly enhance the driving experience and overall safety in our community."

The township requests the understanding and cooperation of residents during this period of road closures. Limited access for residents will be ensured during the milling phase, and all are encouraged to follow traffic directions and signs for their safety and the safety of the road crews.

For any further information or queries about the project, residents can contact the Project Engineers from Mott MacDonald, Samantha Anello at 908-238-5032 or John Ruschke at 908-238-5000.
