Kearny Unveils Community-Invested Soccer Mini-Pitch, 'The Kearny Futures Field

Premier League, EA SPORTS, U.S. Soccer Foundation, and Governor Murphy Initiate Community Enrichment with Soccer Mini-Pitch at Washington Elementary School.

KEARNY, NJ – On July 27, 2023, a blend of joy, excitement, and community spirit will envelop Washington Elementary School in Kearny, New Jersey as it becomes home to the new soccer mini-pitch, aptly named "The Kearny Futures Field". This new community sporting hub, jointly funded by the Premier League and EA SPORTS, was installed in collaboration with the U.S. Soccer Foundation and Governor Phil Murphy.

In a combined effort to elevate the community soccer scene, the event will feature a youth soccer clinic, giveaways, appearances by celebrity athletes, and more, promising an unforgettable day for the community.

Marking its first permanent U.S. site, this project signifies the Premier League and EA SPORTS' ongoing commitment to enriching grassroots football facilities, fostering accessibility, and investing in equipment and education. It further underscores the efforts of the U.S. Soccer Foundation, which, through its national initiative "It's Everyone's Game", has overseen the installation of more than 600 mini-pitches across the U.S., including 27 local ones in New Jersey.

Scheduled for 5 P.M. on Thursday, July 27, 2023, the unveiling ceremony will be graced by various dignitaries. James Salmon, Senior Director at EA SPORTS FC; Richard Masters, CEO of the Premier League; Ed Foster-Simeon, President & CEO of the U.S. Soccer Foundation; Governor Phil Murphy; Kearny School District Superintendent Flora Encarnacao; Kearny Mayor Peter Santana; former USMNT player Tim Howard; and the youth of Washington Elementary School will all be in attendance.

As part of the inaugural ceremony, local youth will participate in the official 'first kick' on the pitch. A multitude of soccer activities and activations are planned. Moreover, interview opportunities will be available with Ed Foster-Simeon, President & CEO of the U.S. Soccer Foundation, and New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy.

This endeavor, deeply rooted in community development, is set to transform the landscape of local sports facilities, providing a platform for Kearny's youth to cultivate their skills, embrace the spirit of the game, and contribute to a healthier, active community.
