Freedom Park's Inclusive Playground Grand Opening

The Inclusive Playground is now built, available, and ready for fun!

RANDOLPH TWP, NJ - Freedom Park, 630 Millbrook Avenue, has an exciting update -- a new inclusive equipment playground, an accessible play area for children of different abilities. The term “inclusive” refers to providing access to play, for all children and adults, regardless of their ability. For example, the playground includes a paved path and wheelchair glider allowing for a wheelchair user to play together with other children and/or an adult in a wheelchair to play with their child. Additionally, the area includes seven pieces of large play equipment, a buddy bench to foster socialization, 5-point harness swings to help those with motor needs, a bilingual communications board with words, pictures, and sign language to help those who might be non-verbal or have hearing needs, sensory equipment for those with sensory needs...and more.

The ribbon cutting and dedication took place on Sunday, August 27, with Mayor Lou Nisivoccia, Deputy Mayor Chris Carey, Councilmember Joe Hathaway, Assemblywoman Aura Dunn, Parks & Recreation Director Russ Newman, PEACE and Rebecca Lory, the Special Education Teacher who led the initiative.

This grass roots effort was a public and private funding partnership that was first discussed in 2022. Nearly $50,000 was raised by generous individuals and businesses, leading to the Ribbon Cutting Opening Ceremony that had face painting, arts and crafts, bubble machines, a DJ and lots of fun!

A special thank you to all the individuals and businesses whose generosity made this possible and the women and Moms who led this effort.
