New "Tap & Ride" Payment System Speeds Up NJ TRANSIT's Bus and Light Rail Services
Morristown Residents to Benefit from Faster, More Convenient Fare Payments
Morristown, NJ — Commuters using NJ TRANSIT bus and light rail lines have a new reason to rejoice. The transit authority has unveiled its "Tap & Ride" system, offering a hassle-free payment experience. With a mere tap of a contactless credit or debit card, passengers can swiftly pay their fare, making long queues and cash transactions a thing of the past.
The cutting-edge "Tap & Ride" system allows passengers on all NJ TRANSIT bus routes, barring the A&C and O.N.E. emergency stabilization service, and all light rail lines, to effortlessly use their contactless cards with the established validators. Whether on board a bus or at a light rail station, the service promises an expedited boarding process.
"With 'Tap & Ride,' customers have an additional quick, convenient payment option,” remarked New Jersey Department of Transportation Commissioner and NJ TRANSIT Board Chair Diane Gutierrez-Scaccetti.
Her sentiments echoed the vision of NJ TRANSIT President & CEO Kevin S. Corbett, who said, “As part of our ongoing efforts to leverage technology to improve the customer experience, NJ TRANSIT is pleased to launch ‘Tap & Ride’. This new fare payment option will not only be more convenient for customers, but it will speed up the boarding process by reducing onboard transaction times.”
For now, the "Tap & Ride" service is available for adult one-way tickets across all three light rail lines and the bus. However, plans are in place to expand the service, accommodating a broader range of ticket options in the near future.
Using the system is a breeze:
- For Bus Travelers: Simply tap the contactless card at the on-board validator (OBV) during boarding and inform the operator of the number of travel zones. Once done, their fare is considered paid.
- For Light Rail Commuters: Customers need to tap their contactless card at the station validator for their adult one-way fare. In terms of fare validation, fare enforcement officers come equipped with mobile scanners. They'll prompt passengers to tap the same card used for the ticket purchase, ensuring proof of payment.
This innovative step by NJ TRANSIT is set to revolutionize the commuting experience for Morristown residents and the larger New Jersey community, providing a seamless, efficient, and modern transit system.
